More Not-Fetching

Running with our Balls! We are running with our Balls!!

It is sunny! We are at the Beach! And we are chasing our Balls and we are running with our Balls! Hurray!

But let me be clear - I am not fetching. I do not fetch.

Ojo fetches. I do not.

Here is the difference. Ojo is fetching. It looks like this:

I am not fetching. Not-fetching sometimes looks like this:

There. I am sure I was clear.

Because I do not fetch. I love to chase my Ball. And sometimes, just sometimes, I may carry my Ball closer to my person. But only because she gives me cheese and makes lots of silly happy-noises.

But this does not mean that I fetch. Because I do not.

In fact, usually my Ball winds up here:

This is why our person wears rubber boots on her Walk.

And so I can continue to not-fetch. And sometimes, just sometimes, not-fetching looks like this:

Oh Sun! You are bright...

Oh sun!
You are warm on my fur!
You feel good to my bones!

Oh sun!
You make the birds sing!
You make the flowers grow!

Oh sun!
You...
...make my eyes squinch up.

You are very bright.

But you are also very welcome!
Oh sun!

(What? I'm supposed to keep my eyes open? I'm supposed to look where? But why??)

The Couch (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Dogs are not allowed on the couch! (And they are certainly not allowed to lie with the clean laundry.)

Do you see any Dogs on the couch? Nope. Me neither.

Shhh. I am going to sleep now. Zzzzzzz.......

Welcome Spring!

Spring is here!

Our yard is doing this:

And the sun was so warm that our person decided it was time to visit our Park!

We haven't been to our Park in a very long time. This is because when Nature makes Winter, she fills our Park with mud.

But the sun was warm on our fur, and the wind was at our backs, and we went to Park and we RAN!

And ran and ran and ran!
(This is our new Dog Friend. She fetches. I chase. Isn't that just pawesome?)

Hurray for warm-sun-warm-air-cool-breeze-spring!

Of Beaches and Balls

Oh Beaches! Oh Balls!
You are two of my favourite things!
But rarely do you happen together.

Oh Beaches, oh Balls,
Ojo and I thank you for happening together!

We went to the Beach!!

And even better, our person brought Balls!

Here is Ojo doing the thing called Fetch.

You may notice that she is wet. And sandy. And did I mention wet? Gross.

This is not for me. I do not do "wet" at the Beach. Nor do I do fetch.

Oh no. Oh dear. My Ball rolled into the water. What now?

I do not do wet! I do not do fetch!

Oh Ball, are you lost forever??? Please come back!

Oh. Thank you Ojo. (I guess Ojo is good for something after all!) (Because Ojo does wet! And Ojo does fetch!)

Hurray for playing with our Balls on the Beach!

Hello Moo!

This is Moo!

Moo has also come to live with our Auntie. We didn't know he was there because last time all we could smell on our people was Comet-the-Cat. But today we learned that our Auntie brought home Moo-the-Cat too!

(Isn't he very handsome?)

We didn't smell him last time because Moo is very shy of people. He is scared and afraid and not-sure when people move towards him. He hides a lot. (But he wants to be friends with people! He is very interested. He is just afraid.)

Both Moo and Comet are Rescue-Cats. Our Auntie has given them a forever-home. Isn't this wonderful?

Moo and Comet are not brother and sister. They came from different places. But now they are best friends. Comet helps Moo feel less afraid.

Here is Comet playing. She is almost always playing! (Moo can only play when he feels safe. But Comet plays always.)

Meanwhile, Moo is learning that our Auntie is Very Nice. She gives good pets (we know this for a fact!), and good food (we know this too!), and she has given him a safe place to live.

He is slowly trying to be less afraid. To come out and play. To get pets, and brushed with his comb. And maybe, one day, he will try sitting in a lap.

Welcome Moo! We hope to smell you again soon!

My Hill ("Cobi's Rock)

Dear friends,

This is my hill. (The people call it "Cobi's Rock".)

In the spring my hill is covered in flowers and soft green grass. In summer my hill has shade from the arbutus trees. In the fall my hill is covered in leaves and scratchy brown grass And now, in winter, my hill holds many puddles for drinking crisp, fresh water.

From my hill I can smell all around. I can see all the way to the ocean, and over the many roads and houses of the people down below.

The bunnies like to traverse my hill, and I like to follow their trails. (But I do not eat them. I am not disgusting like Ojo.)

Usually on walks I stay very close to the people. But when we pass my hill I take my leave.
The people walk below, but I climb up, all the way to the top.

I stand. I sniff. I watch.

My hill is one of the best places in the world. This is why the people have named it "Cobi's Rock".

The people say that one day, when my spirit has walked the rainbow bridge, my body will come here to my hill to rest. So I can enjoy it always. This is my special place.

But for now I am sharing it with you! Welcome to my hill!

Licks,
Cobi

Meet the forest (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Have you met our Forest yet? No?

Everyone, this is Forest!

Yes, yes Cobi, I am telling them all about it!

First of all, our Forest has many large trees! These trees are fir and cedar, and also some maple and alder. Some trees are dead and have fungus and mushrooms growing on them!

Under the trees are ferns and salal and moss-covered rocks! The ground is dark soil full of worms! (Our person calls it "mud", but it is so much more than that!)

Our Forest is full of rain right now. Everything is growing! There are leaves coming out on all the branches!

Also, our forest is full of smells! Bunnies and squirrels and birds! Deer! And there are many dead things for me to find too!

I love our Forest! Momma C, thank-you for bringing us to Forest today!

Hanging out

We're just hanging out. What are you doing this weekend?

(Pee Ess No, of course I am not sharing the bed with Ojo. I would never share a bed with Ojo. We merely happened to lie down in the same place, that is all.)

Intruders! (by Ojo)

Ojo here! We have intruders!!!

Bark bark bark! Grrrrrrr! Bark bark!

Get down here, you furry fluffy rascally intruders!

This is OUR tree! In OUR yard! Yeah, you'd better climb higher because I'm coming after you!

Bark bark bark! Grrrrrr! Bark bark!

I'm coming up there! I'm coming up! I'm -

...okay, so maybe Dogs can't climb trees.

(What do you mean you think they're cute? They are evil, fluffy, furry invaders!)

Bark bark bark bark bark! Grrrrrr! Bark bark bark!

Grrrrrrr!!!

Whew. That was hard work. But I chased them away.

My job is done! Hurray for me!

On beaches, sunshine, and tasty lens caps (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

I will put down my stick! Then I can talk to you properly! (Cobi says it is rude to bark with your mouth full!)

Okay, you caught us! These photos are not from today! (And if you live on our island somewhere in Canada with us you would know that, because it is NOT very sunny here today! But it was very sunny last week!)

We are using these pictures because we have been very busy!

Busy doing what, you ask?

Busy chasing bunnies and squirrels! Busy running in the mud! (Busy sleeping.) Busy training tricks! Busy running through the forest! (Busy emptying all the tissues from the garbage can.) Busy playing with toys! Busy chasing Balls! (Busy eating my littlest person's camera lens cap.)

(Oops, did I say that out loud? I admit to nothing! I didn't do it! Cobi made me!)

I will leave you with this photo of my crazy beach face! (You heard nothing about the lens cap.)

Happy running, friends!
