I sing a song of fall sunshine!

Hi friends, Ojo here!

I sing a song of fall sunshine!

Oh sunshine
On my fur
In the fall
You feel so nice
Oooooooowoof!

On top of this mountain
The ground is damp
With leaves and smells
Of critters and soil
Oooooooowoof!

Oh sunshine
On my fur
In the fall
You feel so nice
I love you!
Oooo oooo ooooowoof!

Ahhhh.....

Today was a very happy day on top of the mountain!

What is the weather doing where you live?

Green nap

Deep in the forest
Of cedar and arbutus and Douglas Fir trees

Where it smells like
Wet soil
Moss
And growing things

Where we can hear
The wind
Chattering birds
And Raven song

Where it feels
Damp
Spongy
And safe

We lie down in the ferns
A soft, cool bed
For rest and napping.

Pee Ess No, our person did not ask us to pose. She stopped to look at the flat black box she carries in her pocket all the time named Phone, and when looked up we were reclining the ferns looking beautiful. As always.

Oh Ball! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here! This is my ode to my Ball!

Oh Ball, how I love you!
Your bounce! Your squish!

I have already chased you down! Again and again!
And now I roll with you in the damp spring grass!
Grr-grr-grr sounds come from my throat!
My back feet bounce in the air!
My fierce and mighty teeth grip you firmly, oh Ball!
And I chew-chew-chew!

I am so happy you came out to play!
Oh Ball, how I love you!

Forest (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

This is my forest!
It is your forest too.
And the forest
Of bunnies, squirrels, deer, raccoons,
Crows, owls, and the wise raven.
Bugs, beetles, worms,
Lichens, mushrooms, fungus, and mosses.
The mighty cedars.
Douglas Fir, Garry Oaks, and playful alder.
Salal and blackberries and gigantic ferns.

We all breath together.
We all share this place.

This is my forest!
It is your forest too.

Winter sunshine

I sit
Upon the rock
With moss and grass and happy dirt

My fur
Warmed by winter sunshine.

I listen
To winter birds
In branches bare in crooked trees

My fur
Warmed by winter sunshine.

Ojo sits
Watches, listens
Her fur warmed also by winter sunshine.

I sit.
Beautiful pose
Waiting for cheese
My fur
Warmed by winter sunshine.

Our forest

Leaves under paws
Smell of rotting wood
Wet soil
And wood smoke

Sniff closer -
A squirrel ran here
A deer, last night
Two Dogs, and their people

Speckles of sunshine on our fur
Wind in trees
Crow song
And a frog
Why do we hear a frog?

Belly down
Cool and soothing
Moist ground under fur

Our person holds up cheese
Says, look over here, please

We lie still
We eat cheese
We stand again
Walk continues

In our forest.

Stick!!! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

This is my stick!

Oh Stick!
When I roll in the grass
And chew on you
I feel very silly!

I love chewing on you!
And I love feeling silly!

I love you
Oh Stick!

Ode to Chewing on a Stick

Chewing on a stick
Is very satisfying

My jaws feel strong
Wolf jaws
Hunter jaws
Stick chewing jaws

There is nothing more satisfying
Than lying in the grass
On a summer day
Chewing

Chewing on a stick

Today

Today
The forest
Was alive
With sounds
  birds wasps squirrels bunnies flies
With smells
leaves poop dogs humans bunnies pee worms banana peel
With sights
light through the leaves blowing with wind

Today
I walked
Beside my person
And Ojo

I listened
I sniffed
I looked

Today
The forest
Was alive

And I
Cobi
Was happy to be alive
Too

Sticks on the Beach

Today we went to the Beach!

It was the first all sunny day we have had in a very long time.
It was still very cold. The temperature of the air was just barely above freezing. But the sun was so very warm on our fur.

Ojo splashed in the water. But I did not because it was Very Cold.

Wait, what's this photo???
It must be a fake, because I do not fetch.

Maybe I just forgot and ran around with a stick. Because the sun was so nice. Yes, that must be it. Because I absolutely do not, never ever, fetch.

We could have stayed in the sun at the Beach all day! (Fetching and not-fetching.)

Oh Stick
I love to chew you
When you are wet and soggy
But also crunchy
At the Beach
On the sand
With sun on my back.
Oh Stick!

Yeah.

Oh Fall! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Oh Fall!

You are not too hot and not too cold!
You are sometimes rainy and sometimes sunny!

You bring many busy squirrels! (Yay!)
You bring many puddles for drinking from!
You bring many smells of rotting things! (Also yay!)
You bring many leaves on the ground!

The whole world is changing around me!
I love your squirrels, and your rotting things!
I love to be outside when you are here!

Oh Fall!

Oh Happy Spring!

Oh Spring!
With your daisies
And fast-growing grass (that we love to munch on)
And warm sun
And fresh breezes

We love you, Spring!

Oh Spring!
I lie in your grass
With my Ball
And I feel happy!

I love you, Spring!

Oh Spring!
You make Ojo go crazy!
She rolls!
She snorts!
She pants!
She rolls some more!

She loves you, Spring!

Oh Spring!
Summer is coming
But we like you better
Because you are not as hot
And your grass is softer
And your breezes are fuller
And your smells are bigger

We love you, Spring!

(And Ojo is crazy. Do you see her rolling behind me with her Ball? Crazy.) (Oh Spring!)

Oh Spring! You are LATE!

Oh Spring!
You came to visit us
For one day only.

Oh Spring!
We are very happy
That you were here.
But...

Oh Spring!
You are LATE!

Don't get us wrong.
We are very happy to be running
In your warm sunshine!

We are are very happy to be rolling
In your fresh green grass
That is damp and soft and wonderful!

We are very happy
That it was warm enough
(at least for one day)
To lie in the damp grass
And sniff the smells on the breeze
In your fresh fresh air.

BUT
Oh Spring!
You are LATE!

And you did not stick around.

I hope you come again soon
For real this time
(So I can run and roll and lie
in your fresh green grass
in the sunshine).

Please come soon.

Oh Spring!

Over there

Oh Beach,
You are OVER THERE.

But we
Are over here.

Why are we over here
Sitting on this picnic table
When Beach
Is OVER THERE?

Oh Frosty Morning!

Oh frosty morning!
Your cold ground
Holds many smells, crisp and clean
For us to sniff!

The bunny that ran here last night
The squirrel that ran here night
The deer that ran here last night
The mouse that ran here last night
And Ojo, who peed here this morning.

But
Oh frosty morning
There is one thing that is wrong.

Your drinking puddles
Are solid.

Or
Very cold.

This is not good.
Oh frosty morning!

Queen of the Mountain

Oh Fall!

Your yellow light
Shines on all I can see.
But I can smell even more
Because my nose is amazing.

Oh Fall
I am Queen of the Mountain!
And all I can see
And all I can smell.

Right?
Right.

Oh Fall.

Foggy fog (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

This is what the people call a "Foggy Fog Day!"

Oh Fog!

Your wet heaviness carries
So many smells
For us to smell
With our noses.

And you are fun to play in!

Oh Fog!

Oh Fall! (another fall poem)

Oh Fall!

You are lush and green, but also red and brown.
You are cold morning and warm sunshine.
You are rain and wind and sun and fog and everything in between.

Oh Fall, we love you!

Fall is here

Oh Fall, you have arrived.
You are the foggy morning,
The leaves on the ground,
The wet puddles for drinking.

Oh Fall, you are here.
Welcome, Fall!
