WIND

Hi friends, Ojo here!

Today Nature is making Very Big Wind.

I do not like this. The only place I can be even a little bit safe is under my person's feet. Or between her legs. Or under the wheels of her office chair. Clearly nowhere else is safe.

Please send bacon as it's the only thing that will help me now.

Hi friends, Ojo here! Pepper and climbed up high this weekend! It was very windy!

I love all the smells that come on the wind, don't you?

What did you do this weekend?

The Big Wind and the Happy Snow

Hi friends, Ojo here!

We had a Big Storm. With the Big Storm came the Big Wind. I do not like the Big Wind. It makes the whole house shake. I had to hide in my person's bed all night. It was very scary!

But the next day, when I hopped out of my person's bed, I found that there was a lot of happy snow on the ground!

I will forgive the storm for the wind since it brought the perfect amount of happy snow.

What about you, friends? I hope you don't have the big wind. Perhaps you have happy snow?

Storm

Nature is making storms. Sun, then rain. Then sun, then more rain. Wind, wind, and more wind.

Nature is crazy right now!

Mount Doug in Spring means rain, sun and wind

Today Car took us to Mount Doug. Nature was making Spring. There was sunshine and rain, and lots of wind, and then more sunshine, and then more rain.

We did my favourite Walk, which starts with forest and mud and trees and bushes, then goes into rocks to climb (I love climbing!), and then the area that my person calls GarryOakEcosystem, which has lots of grass and moss and flowers. And trees named Garry Oak.

My person made me do the thing called "posing", but she had water and lamb-treat for me so I didn't mind.

Aren't I pretty-dog? I love Mount Doug in the spring!

Wind Haiku

Nature's wind blows pounds
Howls but we are safe inside
Our big den called "house".

Nature's big wind makes sniffing a person's track hard

Today my person took me to Mt. Doug and said the special words "go track". But it was very hard. Nature was making very strong winds was blowing the smell all over the place. The scent, by the way, belonged to woman-who-visits-lots-and-walks-in-forest. I knew who it was even before my person opened the bag because I could smell where she had walked on the trail already.

But it was hard to follow her on the trail. The wind was blowing the smell away and into funny places, and I was sure she had gone up a little path, even though my person said "no" and wouldn't let me go that way. I felt stressed. I ate some grass. My person asked me to try again. I did. But I was still stressed. I ate more grass. Have patience with me Momma B, this is really hard.

My person backed me up a ways and gave me the smell in the bag again. I decided to try again, just for Momma B. I put my nose down and worked very hard. We moved very slowly. This was okay, because my person still made pleased noises and said the word "good" a lot.

Then the track went into the forest and this was much easier. Less wind and more things to hold the smell in place. I moved fast. But then we left the forest and got onto open trail again. I knew which direction the track went, but then I lost her smell. By now I was getting tired. I looked at my person.

Oh Momma B, this is really hard.

My person backed me up into the woods again. I wanted to go all the way back, but she didn't let me go very far. She asked me to "check around". I did. I could smell where woman-who-visits-lots-and-walks-in-forest had gone, but I was feeling frustrated. I shook my body. That helped a bit.

My person said "back to work" and started walking in the direction of the big open trail. So I put my nose down and tried again. I moved slowly. I checked all over both sides of the large trail where the wind was blowing. By going back and forth and side-to-side I kept moving in the right direction.

And then something good happened. The track went back into the forest. There were bushes on the ground and lots of piles of prickles. The smell was stuck onto each of the bushes and each of the prickles. I could smell clearly now so I started going fast again. In fact, I knew we were getting really close. I closed my eyes and pushed through a big pile of prickles. And then, behind a tree, there she was! Woman-who-visits-lots-and-walks-in-forest! I found her!

She had handfuls of meat for me. Whew. That was really hard work.

My person took off my sniffing harness and we went for a wonderful walk in the forest. It was good to be walking and playing. It was one of the most fun walks I've had in a long time, with running and sniffing, and new trails I'd never been on before. It was worth doing all that hard work to get such a wonderful walk after.

Big cold wind

Today Nature made a big cold wind.

Today was also a different sort of day. First thing in the morning I played outside with my person. She threw balls made of snow for me to chase. Then all the people left and I had to stay behind. But at least I had a very large, very smelly, very tasty bone.

After a while man-who-plays came home. We had a short walk but I didn't get to run and play at all, just sniff things. Then he left again and I went back to my bone. The cat named Jericho pooed on the place where my people sleep. She is mad because her person is missing. I poked it with my nose but I decided not to help clean it up.

Finally everyone came home. Well, by everyone I mean Momma B, my littlest person and man-who-plays. Momma C has been missing for a few days. I wonder where she is?

Man-who-plays was making yummy smells in the kitchen, and so my person took me to the park.

The places where we had to walk to get to the park were covered in slippery ice. Also there is something else on the ground that stings my toes. Momma B tells me this is salt.

At the park it was very cold. There was lots of snow. The big wind that Nature was making had blown the snow all over the place. In some spots it was deeper than my chest. In other spots I could see the grass.

At the park I played and ran and sniffed. I am glad I have thick fur.

Some friends came. We played chase in the snow. This was very much fun.

Then it was time to go home. I didn't mind. Even though my fur is thick and warm, the wind was still making me cold.

After dinner everyone left me again. I cleaned out the rest of my bone. I didn't mind resting after all of that running and playing in the snow.

Now everyone is home again, except for Momma C who is still missing. I am going to go have a nap in my bed by the thing that makes heat.

I wonder what tomorrow is going to be like?

Snow keeps coming

The snow keeps coming and coming. Now it is windy too. I need to squinch my eyes when I'm outside because the wind blows snow into them. The snow is up to my chest in some places. I need to either be like a plow or be like a deer and bounce. I don't mind. I love running in the snow.

Momma B, what do you mean by "snow beard"?

UVic Mud Park

Last night we did something called "movie night". I liked this very much. First there was popcorn. I very much love popcorn. Then all of my people settled down quietly with blankets. I had a blanket-den by their feet. It was warm and cozy. For some reason Momma B kept trying to push me over. She said that I had the whole blanket and wasn't sharing. I'm not sure what's wrong with that?

Today Momma B said that we were going to go to "UVic Mud Park". When we got there, it looked a lot like UVic Dog Park. Are you sure this isn't UVic Dog Park, Momma B?

Maybe she was right. There was lots of mud, especially on one side of the park. My feet went gwoosh gwoosh gwoosh. Mother Nature had put a lot of water into the park. She also put sun in the park, and a very big wind. I liked the sun, but I didn't like the very big wind.

This is a "mud puddle". It is a very big mud puddle. It is almost a mud pond.

Momma B, I have had enough wind. Can we move now to someplace less windy?

Sun and Dallas Road

This morning my person went away and left me at home. When she came back she smelled like lots of other dogs. Puppies, actually. I wonder where she goes, and why she doesn't take me with her? I can play with puppies!

Today is sunny. The air is not cold, but the wind is very cold. Since it was raining very hard yesterday, my person decided that Mt. Doug and UVic Dog Park would be too muddy. So we went to Dallas Road instead. This is fine by me!

At Dallas Road I found my friend Finn. Finn likes to chase a ball, and he doesn't mind when I chase him. He just smiles at me.

Excuse me little black dog, but I am kind of busy right now. Can't you see Finn is about to run again?

After Finn had to go home we went for a walk. First we walked up top, then we went down to the beach. It was very windy down at the beach, and the wind was very cold. But I still had very much fun. Plus the wind carried all sorts of interesting smells from far away...

When I look outside now it is cloudy. I think it may rain again. I am glad we got out when it was sunny. I feel very happy now.

Big wind

There is a big wind outside. And rain. We walked, then I ran in the park in the dark in the rain and the wind. Nature is very powerful tonight.

Wind and an itch

Last night it was very windy. I cuddled into my crate-den, but the wind was only outside. Our house kept us warm. I wonder how the chickens did last night? Did their feathers blow in the wind, or did their little house keep them warm?

I have an itchy spot on my back. Momma C got out a special brush and scratched it for me. This felt very good.

Today was a forest day again. The rain has started.
