Mud and friends

Mud and friends! Brodie, Simon and Teddie.

Playing, running, sniffing. Fun. Water and mud.

Oh yeah. I found Momma B's shirt in the woods too. I am so very amazing.

My favourite things

Walks in the forest and walks by the sea
Ice cream and popcorn and chicken for me
Bouncing through snow with legs like big springs
These are a few of my favourite things

Climbing big cliffs and walking on logs
Having a sniff and chasing fast dogs
Chewing on bones with marrow that clings
These are a few of my favourite things

Chasing red dots and chasing a hose
Digging through stuff and using my nose
Anything meat that had fins, hooves or wings
These are a few of my favourite things

When the people leave
When I'm left alone
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things
And then I don't feel so bad

(But I feel even better if I have one of my favourite things with me, like a bone... bone please...)

A pop corn

The little white thing on my paw is one of my favourite things in the whole wide world. It is called a "pop corn". I will do anything for a pop corn.

May I eat it now please?

Gone.

Mini mountain

Last night at dinner time Momma B left. She went hunting. When she came back she carried a chicken. It was already cooked and it smelled amazing. I wish I could hunt as well as Momma B. Fortunately some of the chicken fell into my bowl at dinner, and more this morning too.

Today I waited for a very long time for it to be my turn to go out and have fun. Finally my person put me in the car. We drove to Mt. Doug. But when we got to Mt. Doug she forgot me in the car. Excuse me, Momma B! What about me?

A little while later she came back. This time I got to go out of the car and walk with her. We walked where she had already gone. She must have remembered that she forgot me and come back to do the walk again. That's okay Momma B, I forgive you. Just don't let it happen again.

But then she called me to her and put on my sniffing harness. So it was time to go to work. I checked around. There were lots of smells on our path. The freshest smell was two woman-people who had walked there a few minutes ago. I could smell my person's trail, and also other people who had gone by earlier. I wondered if I was going to follow one of the new woman-people who I had never met before?

Once I had checked all around and found all the smells, my person opened the bag. Inside the bag was her own smell! I was supposed to follow Momma B's tracks!

My person said the special words "go track", and so I did. I followed where she had walked without me down the trail, into the bushes, and then behind a big tree. There was something dropped behind the tree, but her trail kept going so I tried to follow it. My person called me back. When I checked out the thing on the ground with her smell in it, she got very excited and put lots of chicken in my mouth. I was ready to keep going, but she took my special sniffing harness off. Is that it??

That was it. After that we went for a walk on the trails. We found a mini-mountain in the middle of the forest that neither of us knew was there. At the top were moss and the trees called arbutus, and we could see all the way to the ocean.

We hung out up there for a little while. I sniffed all sorts of things. My person peed. I scratched my feet on the ground to show everyone where she had marked. She always forgets to do that so I have to do it for her.

Climbing down the other side was hard for my person. It was slippery and steep. But it was easy for me. People should try walking on four paws instead of two.

We went back into the forest and the mini mountain disappeared. We couldn't see it at all. This mountain is our special hidden secret place. I hope we go back again soon!

New old games

Today I still feel tired from yesterday. Instead of going for a walk, we played in our yard. Momma B brought out some games that we haven't played in a long time.

This game is called WeavePoles. I need to go around the funny sticks in the right way to make the click sound happen. Then a treat happens.

The sticks are the colour yellow. I can see yellow really well, so it's easy for me to see the sticks. The hard part is figuring out how Momma B wants me to go around them. She showed me many times. I think I have it mostly figured out now.

Is this a jumping game?

I guess so!
I will jump for you, Momma B!

Momma B was very pleased with how I did today.

The chickens wanted to try WeavePoles too. They were not as good as me. No clicks. No treats.

Shirt Sniffing

Today was Friday Sniffing Day. Before Sniffing I had a wonderful walk in the forest with Momma B. We got to walk for a long time, up and down hills, through trees and bushes, over rocks and moss, past swamps and ponds.

My turn was last for Sniffing today. But I'd had such a good walk that I didn't mind waiting and resting.

When we got into the woods for Sniffing I checked around. I could smell the direction that my person, Molly's person, Simon's person and Leader had walked many times. I could also smell Simon and Molly going in that direction. I was ready to go. Right away. Let's go!!

But my person took me in a different direction a little ways. She said the word "Quickly". Oh right. I should probably make a Quickly. So I did.

After I finished my pee, my person took me back to the place where everyone else had headed away from. She put on my sniffing harness and Leader opened the bag with the smell in it for me.

Guess whose smell was in the bag? It was Leader's smell!

Do you think was confusing? Nope. She was behind me, but in front of me there was a track where she had walked before. Several times. No problem. Off I go!

I followed where Leader had walked three times before. She walked in the same place each time so it was easy.

As I cut behind a tree, I suddenly found something on the ground. It was big, soft, and had lots of Leader's smell on it. I stopped to check it out, and suddenly my person got very excited. She ran up to me, jumped up and down, and put lots of ham in my mouth. I guess I was supposed to find that. I am very clever.

But Leader's trail kept going. So after my ham I kept following it.

All of the people made people-laugh noises, and my person called me back. I sniffed the soft-thing-with-Leader's-smell again. I got more ham. My person took off my harness and picked up a stick. We played stick-chase-bite. So I guess that was it. Since the people were so pleased, I was very pleased as well.

Then Leader came up. I poked my nose at her. Yes, definitely Leader. Definitely the smell I was following. I rubbed on her legs for petting. See, I found Leader too! Leader gave me a big pet and then picked up the thing she had lost on the ground. It was a shirt. She seemed pleased that I had found it for her. I am very helpful.

We played on the walk back through the forest. Each time I came up to one of the people they told me how clever I was for finding what Leader had lost. I agreed. Then my person put on my leash and we walked the rest of the way on the road back to the car. My person still had ham, so I walked very nicely beside her so she would share. Back in the car she gave me a bone, which is what I get for being clever and finding lost people. And for finding lost shirts too.

Raven Wednesdays

The past few days Nature has made rain. Last night she made a very large wind.

Not very many exciting things have been happening, until today. Today Raven came and took me away to play. We got very muddy.

I love Raven more than anything else in the world. When she leaves my heart feels sad. But the good thing is that I see her more often now. It turns out that Wednesdays are Raven days. Can every day be Wednesday?
