Happy happy snow snow! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Happy happy snow snow! Happy happy snow snow!

Happy happy snow snow! Happy happy snow snow!

Snow under my paws! Snow in  my mouth! Snow to bite! Snow to chase! Snow to bounce in!

I am very serious about my snow.

Cobi, why are you looking at me like that? You love snow just as much as I do!

Happy happy snow snow! Happy happy snow snow!

I got snow for Christmas!

Ojo asked for a couch for Christmas. She did not get it. (Although she did get to sleep on the bed with our littlest person.)

The key to doing well at Christmas is to ask for things that you know Santa can deliver. A couch would never fit down the chimney. In fact, we don't even have a chimney. But Santa did deliver something special. Something very important. Something we both asked for...

SNOW!!!

Snow is one of my favourite things in the whole wide world!! And Santa brought it for us, just because we asked!! (You see, it pays to be a Good Dog!)

I was so happy with  my snow that I even let Ojo play with me. We had lots of fun running and chasing and leaping!

And then, after all the playing, it was time for a long winter's nap...

BAD! (by Ojo)

Santa has come and gone, and you know what that means, right? I can be BAD again!

This morning I begged at the table. I stole some Christmas presents. I stole Cobi's chewie (but the people made me give it back). I slept on the people-bed.

And this is the best part! Have you ever met Snow Man? Snow Man has a carrot for his nose. I have found many of these Snow Mans. And I am very sneaky - I have stolen the Snow Man nose!

This Snow Man does not have a carrot nose. That is no good. I will just chew on his arm instead.

But that Snow Man - he had a carrot nose! I have scored many carrot noses so far! My person keeps taking them back, but if I chew really fast I can eat most of it before she gets to me!

Oh I am so happy that I can be Bad again! Hurray!

This was Christmas! (by Ojo)

Today was Christmas! Last night Santa came! We were Good Dogs afterall!!

This was for Cobi!

And this one was for ME!!

I grabbed my blue-monster-squeaking-toy right away! Cobi was more polite and waited for the people. Her chicken squeaked too!

AND we got bully sticks!! Here my littlest person helps get the plastic off. (I could have done that.)

But THIS was the best part - the PAPER!!!

I love the paper. More paper please!

(Why did the people sigh and moan?)

My Bed is perfect, thank-you-very-much. Please leave it just the way it is! I like the paper!

Then it was time for a nap.

Okay, yes, it's not my Bed. I will share with you, my littlest person. Merry Christmas to my people - thank-you for bringing me to your home! Merry Christmas Cobi! And Merry Christmas to all of you!

I am being Good...

...I am being Good, I am being Good, I am being Good!

It is VERY hard to be Good all the time! Santa, please come soon! Before I run out of Good things to chew on. Please!!

Walking the Rainbow Bridge

Last night the Cat Named Jericho walked over the Rainbow Bridge.

She was a very wise Cat. She didn't speak to us Dogs very much, but when she did it was always to impart some important wisdom such as "Do not wake a sleeping Cat" (who knew?), or "That bed is mine."

Our littlest person in particular misses her very much. They slept in the same bed at night, and cuddled all the time. The Cat Named Jericho listened to and protected all of our littlest person's secrets. Like I said, she was a very wise Cat.

Good-bye, friend Cat. You will be missed.

Stocking Problem

Oh look - there's my stocking!! It's red with a white paw print. Isn't it lovely?

Each year the people hang it for me. Then, on Christmas Eve, if I have been a Very Good Dog (which I always am of course!), Santa and Rudolph fill it with treats and toys for me! Hurray! It's stocking time!

Look at the stocking on the far left. That is for one of the Cats. It is much smaller than mine. Hah. I am much Gooder than the Cats!

But - wait. Just wait. What's that new stocking next to mine? The one with the green paw print?

That's Ojo's stocking, you say?

Hang on! It's so big!! It will hold waaay more treats and toys than my stocking!

Sigh. Life isn't fair around here.

Dear Santa (from Ojo)

Dear Santa,

Ojo here! Cobi has been telling me all about this thing called "Christmas". She says that it is amazing, and that I will get yummy food and toys and all sorts of good things... BUT this only happens if I can convince you and your friend Rudolph that I have been a Good Dog this year.

So here it goes.

Santa, I have to tell you that my year started off pretty tough. I had a family but I lost them. I don't think they wanted me any more. They didn't say why, just they were there and then they were not. I lived on the streets and was called "stray". I had to steal my food in order to survive. Does this make me Bad? I hope not.

Then I got picked up by some people and put in the place called "pound". I lived there for what felt like a very long time. I got to go outside only sometimes, and didn't get much exercise. This was very hard for me. I love the outside so very much, Santa! Does me barking and whining in the pound make me Bad? I hope not.

A pawesome group of people called "Dog Bless Rescue" saw me. I tried to look cute and pretty (and like a Good Dog), and it must have worked because I was taken out of the pound. I had something happen that hurt lots called "spaying". I had shots and stuff put on my skin. Then I was stuck in a tiny box and put on a noisy thing called airplane.

When I got off the air smelled different, and everything was all new.

Like I said Santa, my year started off pretty tough.

But things got better from there. My foster home was pretty nice, and then - my people found me!

So here's the deal.

Santa, I did not know I wasn't supposed to eat the Cat Food. I only jump on people sometimes, when I'm really excited. I thought the Recycling was a bin of toys for me to play with. (That's an honest mistake!)

I chew on shoes and water bottles and the stairs only when I get really, really bored. Can you blame me? I mostly only forget to listen to my people when there is a squirrel or rabbit or bird nearby.

I did not know that the magnets on the fridge are not for chewing on. Or the coasters. Or my littlest person's soccer cleats.

I did not know that the couch is not for sleeping on. (It's so comfy, Santa!) I did not know that I was not supposed to bury a bone outside, then dig it up a week later and bring it back into the house. I did not know that the stuffed toy named Puffie belongs to Cobi. (Cobi, I am sorry I took some of the insides out of your favourite toy. I feel very bad about this.)

But I am trying very hard to be a Good Dog. Here is how I am Good:

  • I Sit and Lie Down and go to my bed when the people ask me. (Most of the time.)
  • I do not chase the Cats.
  • I play the game called "training". (I can go around trees and weave my person's legs and bow and shake paws and all sorts of pawesome things!)
  • After my Walk I curl up into a little ball and go to sleep so my person can work.
  • I am very gentle with little people.
  • I let Cobi think she is the boss.
  • I sat still while the people put a silly hat on my head and pointed their big, black eye named "camera" at me. (See my pawesome picture below!)
  • I give my people licks and wags every single day.

So clearly I am a Good Dog.

For Christmas I would like the following things:

  • Snow
  • A couch that I am allowed to lie on
  • Anything squeaky, chewy or smelly
  • To keep my new family forever and ever

Licks and wags,
Ojo

Glow Doggies

We have these new fancy collars called "Glow Doggies"! We wear them when we go outside in the dark. Aren't they pretty?

Our person paid quite a bit for them, but they are pawesome!

They are totally water-proof, so I got to roll in the Snow, and Ojo can run in the rain! Our people can see us anywhere, so they let us go play at night. And they take triple-A batteries, whatever that means. My person likes that, though.

And wherever we go in the dark we can see! (My person says that we are like mini-flashlights, and when she needs to see something she calls one of us over. This is okay, because she usually has chicken anyways.)

Oh my Dog - SNOW! (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

Oh my Dog, oh my Dog!! We went to the BEST place!

We went to a little house. It had the BEST yard - full of white stuff named Snow! Also, the food there was chicken and rice. Our donut beds went with us. And so did our people.

And did I mention that there was SNOW??

Cobi showed me how to chase Snow Balls! These are Balls, but made of the cold, wet white stuff! They're totally pawesome because when you catch them, you can eat them!!

But watch, friends - I can jump higher than Cobi can!! Hah!

I didn't feel well, and then Cobi didn't feel well, but then we felt better and we went running and chasing together. Yes, Cobi actually played with me! (The snow makes her less grumpy, I think!)

Rarw! I will get you, Snow Ball!

And then, when we got home, I broke into the Dog Food Bag and ate a whole bunch of FOOD! This was the BEST WEEKEND EVER!

(Although my tummy hurts again now. I wonder why that is?)

Lost breakfasts and dinners, and my friend the Snow!

This weekend Ojo met my friend Snow!

I have been telling her just how amazing it is, but she did not believe me. Well, she believes me now!!

We did have a bit of a problem though. Ojo was sick. Sick enough that her Dinner came up out of her mouth (but she got to eat it again, lucky Dog!). And then her Breakfast too.

Finally Ojo was feeling better, but then I started to feel bad. My Dinner left my body and I didn't get it back. The next morning the people gave us chicken and rice to help our bellies. But I have some very sad news, friends. I lost my chicken and rice. I only had it in my belly for five minutes, then it went back out. And when I went back to eat it later, it was GONE!

This was tragic!

But, finally, we were both feeling better. We went for many Walks. We sniffed many things. We chased birds and chipmunks. And then we sat and watched the white world while the sun went to sleep.

Here is Ojo and my friend Snow. She was pleased to make its acquaintance. Do you have Snow too?

Caturday

It is I, JACK CAT, here to wish you a Happy Caturday!

I survey the Squirrels. What are they doing out there?

Oh Winter
You are coming.

Your soft, pale sun lights up my fur.
Your cold, wet ground is fresh under my paws.
Your crisp, biting air brings scents from afar.

I am a Dog of Winter.

I do not like the hot summer sun that melts my paws and scorches my fur. I am a Dog of cold. Of clear night skies, of frozen ground.

Ojo is learning. She will like the cold too.

Oh Winter
You are coming.

What is this? (by Ojo)

Hi hi hi! Ojo here!

What's this? What's going on?

The ground in crunchy! And cold!

The puddles are broken! I cannot drink from them!

But - the SMELLS! The cold, crunchy ground holds the smells so nicely! So many things to sniff! So fresh, so clear!

I could sniff the cold, crunchy ground forever!
